    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

okay....did the Nutter bypass, and it (so far) runs great!! No stalling, and starts right up. Not gonna hold my breath that its fixed just yet, but so far it seems to be. But now....NO HEATER!!!! It worked before the bypass. :(

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

The auto shut-off is in the ECU.....at least that is what the Haynes manual says. :???: Maybe it does not have one, but just wondering if that would cause any problems. Going to check the connection at the coil today and possibly do a nutter bypass and see if that helps any. I'll let ya...

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

I agree I think its electrical. And thats going to be a nightmare to track down....Looking at doing the nutter bypass on it. Do you know anything about the automatic shut down on it? Could that have anything to do with it stalling?

    ICM didn't work......

okay, so I replaced the ignition switch and the tumbler and the ICM. It STILL stalls. When I hooked up the timing light, I found that it is losing spark. Any ideas where I am losing it from? Distributor, coil, wires, plugs, are all new. Carb was rebuilt. Running out of ideas.....maybe a...

    Need help with carb adjustment

Does anyone know the stock setting for the air/fuel screws on a Carter BBD with a stepper motor? Can't seem to get it adjusted right after the carb rebuild. And yeah, I know it would be better to replace the carb with a Motorcraft or something, but already put a lot of $$$$ into just getting...

update for ya on my Jeep. I think I found it. Got the carb all rebuilt, (it had the wrong gaskets on it....lol!) ran GREAT for about 2 days. Then stalled again. So replaced the ignition switch. Still not it. Got an icm for it, going to change that tonight. Hopefully that fixes it!!!!

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

yep....that is EXACTLY what mine does. Doesn't sputter, it just shuts off, like you said, as if someone turned off the key. Does not matter the speed, or how long you drive. Sometimes I can go 2 miles and it shuts down, sometimes all day with no problem. It always restarts, but its really...

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

When your Jeep stalled, would your tach drop right to zero? Hoping it will be something a little less $$$$$!!! :(

I was in the Air Force and I was stationed at Hill AFB in Utah. And yeah there is a town called Billings, its about 8 hours south of me. I am in northwest Montana. Awesome country! You should visit Montana sometime, but Billings does not do it justice, you have to go north! Sorry about your...

pretty much set on getting a TJ

I have to agree with everyone....get a hardtop. You can get the soft top later. I never went to college either, but I was in the service, and people like to mess with Jeeps. Soft tops are just too tempting. And as far as stock....I have not had my Jeep all that long, and right now its in a...

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

ohhhh.... sorry. Okay, I'll check that. Going to rebuild the carb anyhow, cuz it sat for a year and a half without being ran, so it needs it anyways, but I will check that part too. :D Thanks! $24 is way better than $150 for the ICM, so thats a good starting point.

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

because you have to wiggle the ignition to get the key out. You have to mess with it and get it just right to remove the key, and same with turning it to acc. Also the steering wheel is not straight, and the horn cover is really loose, and if you wiggle it, the horn honks randomly....:lol...

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

well....thats kind of the problem...not sure where its coming from. I think I am going to start with the carb, then replace the ignition switch, (even though its new, I am pretty sure it was not replaced right). Also....not sure if this would have anything to do with the wiring, but most of...

    1988 Wrangler stalling--FRUSTRATED!!!!

All the lights, radio, ect work, just the engine dies and the tach drops immediately to zero. I don't think its the ignition switch, it was replaced, unless the mechanic who did it messed some wiring up. There is for sure some wiring issues, because when you push on the brake pedal, the...
