bikini top installation ?

My 88 YJ has a hardtop with the flange you screw thru to mount hardtop . I wish to start running a bikini top and most all state using a windshield channel . My question is once I take off hardtop do I have to take the flange off then screw on the channel for bikini top .If I want to go back to hardtop Iam guessing I have to reverse everything I do each time I switch back and forth . Or does anybody know of something else that works without swapping flange and channel each time

What flange? There was nothing to remove from the top of the windshield when I removed the hardtop on my '88 YJ.

Screw on the bikini rail and go.
