258 block w/ 86 head

Is there any reason a 86 head wouldn't fit on a 79 block for a 258 jeep engine? I know the bolts are bigger for the 79 head but can I bore the holes on the 86 head by 30 mils to make it fit?

I've got an early 87 head, which I think is identical to your 86, on a 75 block and have had no problems. I know the block ID on my original motor showed it to be manufactured in 86.

Call a machine shop and ask a pro! They have spec books that will tell you how much you can bore out holes before having a problem.

86 used 7/16 head bolts,, block is tapped to 7/16in. bolt, previous years used a 1/2in. u can is an 86 block and previous year head w/ spaceers in the head or have the 86 head machined to 1/2in holes and use on prev. year block.
good luck!

I am also looking at a higher lift cam any differences in compression between the 79 and 86, or Valve interference to be worried about?
