87 Wrangler...

I'll never part with 6 Pack

Ahhh, Jeep loyalty - goota love it. Heck, maybe there's an "X" in my future, who knows?

I've wheeled quite a bit of different rigs. Wranglers, new and old, Broncos, Samurai's, FJ40's, full size Bronco, Blazer, and I must say, the Early Bronco is the most fun, followed by the Samurai (strangely had a blast) next the Wrangler and fj40. But the XJ is just as fun to drive.

Well, then I certainly can't tell you something you don't already know. Kinda figured there was a Samurai in you past somewhere, based on your other post - that second one looks great (except for the spare). Oh well, different strokes for different folks - as long as you're gettin' muddy (or scrapin' rocks), that's all that really matters.

All my TJ bashing has been in jest. I hope you all know that. I'm basically an easy-going kinda guy, and love to tease people. I can take a lot of teasing in return, too, so don't worry about knocking my unlifted, unmodified little YJ......it's all good, so long as you're in a Jeep, right?

No offense taken here, Sparky. I actually get a kick out of it - there are some very creative, humorous minds on this site.

TJ mud

LOL, yeah this is strictly a friendly jabs and laughs thread.

I wish I owned all of those afore mentioned rigs, but I only owned the E. bronco, full sized bronco, and XJ. The rest were rigs of friends and club members. That sami was fun though.

there are more jeep models w. square than w. circle.. keep that one in mind, also remind yourselves that the most capable jeep made today is a TJ (rubi for anyone not connecting that one) does the liberty front clip transfer over that easily to XJ's? lol not.. do we really have any liberty owners on here ?

I just make fun of the models that I don't own. I've never owned a TJ, so I like poking fun at them. Most YJ owners feel the need to constantly try and make square headlights seem like it wasn't a mistake, but deep down they know it was.....so I like to make headlight comments alot. It's all in fun.

The classic symbol of a SWB Jeep is two round headlights and a 7 slotted grill. Even Jeep played up that image.....until 1987, when suddenly only the 7 slots were important. I like the way the YJ grill looks, those front clips look really good on CJ8s. But it was still a mistake and we all know it, that's why they went back to round. :P

Now hold on while I button up this flame suit.

I agree.

Might as well say my piece about why I am a YJ fan! First and foremost it has not a dang thing to do with the head lights. "It's the after market lights that you use that matters anyway" YJ is the perfect match between the bare bones rough ol CJ and the sissy dashed, coil springed, new style TJ. The stance of the YJ just seems better suited for the trail most of all over the CJ as it seems to stand with its feet a little wider apart and more centered with its mind on stayen put on the ground. I like the wider flater hood and how the bumpers mount up. The fact that you mod one as cheap as you can makes it a bargan over the money hungry TJ. I like the dash how it is a bit more user friendly yet not all fufu like a neon or other fun car. The head lights are just an added bonus, they make it ez to spot in a long line of SWB Jeeps. The roll bars were an improvement over the ol CJ style. the YJ is just a link in the long line of jeepton that is by no means it's weak link. It is most likely the best of the best when it comes to jeeps. But then again what do I know! "enough to fight over more than headlight shape thats for sure" hehehehehe tug

Good post tug. BTW- we ain't arguing... just teasing each other.

I've heard those same arguments for the YJ. AND through what little research I've done, I have the same opinion. I am leaning toward the YJ due to the responses from this thread. I saw that pic of yours with the Baja Claws from the side, and to be honest, that's when I started with the SWB bug. Problem is... I can't find a descent YJ for less than 7000. Autos are pricey out here in southern NM.

And then there's the Early Bronco/Samurai route. Problem is, they aren't as practical in terms of daily driving.

the sissy dashed, coil springed, new style TJ

In defense of the TJ (lights and coil springs aside), I don't like the dash either. Much prefer the YJ. Much better prefer the older CJ and Willys bare metal dash. But the feds insist on air bags. THAT's what messed up the TJ dash. Put a little slant in the windshield just to get 'em in there. Messed it all up. Kinda scares me when I'm off road havin' them d*&$ air bags. my two bits

When your off road? Those air bags scare me anytime :) dont care if they are "safer" i dont like the idea of something blowing up in my face.

I agree. I certainly didn't buy the first YJ for the headlights, actually the reason I bought a YJ was because they were in my price range at the time. Since, I have found many reasons to prefer them and most of the reasons were just spelled out by Tug. As for the headlights, I really do like them because they set the YJ apart from the pack, like many of it's features. Like Tug was getting at, it's not just the square headlights, it's the little differences in the front end, and the square headlights just make it stand out more.

C'mon folks! Who couldn't love a mug like this?:

Well how about this ................. take my advice............... get one of each.......... Keep the XJ get a CJ and a YJ and then decide........... I have a descent XJ a really nice CJ7, and we are currently building a YJ, and i drive enough TJ's during the week when i work at the Jeep dealership....... but so far i prefer the CJ but that may change when the YJ is finished....
my $.02

Of course that dont look right tug. But pull that ugly woodgrain stickon crap off there and ya got a real jeep ;)

I think they all have advantages. For me, the simplicity of the soft top alone is enough of the reason to like my TJ better than the YJ. But then, the TJ is all ive ever owned, so im a little biased :)
