I have a cobbled up 89 yj ,the previous owner changed eveything. Now I need to identify the trans to replace it. The problem is that it could be anything. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated Thanks , Rick
start looking.... some have tags, some markings on the side case - had an old TH400 that had it on the pan... post your engine type that might help someone more knoledgeable to help as only certain transmission's bolt to certain blocks.... prob. not much help but i try.... :0)
Thanks Bob, Engine type is a carburated 258 not what came in it, it is a 4 speed auto now & very small at that. might be a 727 or a 904 w lockup or a 909. I'll keep looking ,though there isn't anything marked on it that I can see. Thanks , Rick.
I thought the 727/904/999 were all three speeds.
I saw somewhere that there was a chart identifying the Jeep transmissions by the bolt pattern on the pan (i.e. gasket). Where did I see that? Maybe in the back of Quadratec or something.
If worse comes to worse, you could buy gaskets for all three and then return the two that don't match.
My bet is it's a 904.
