Well my TJ sport recently lost the ability to use its rear diff.... :) somehow... :D along the way the teeth are missing, housing is hosed, and it looks like a total replacement. My buddy offered his stock, he now has 2 tons underneath his, bronco rear end if I wanted it. Anybody attempted this and know what would be involved if it is even possible?

If no one has any ideas on this maybe i could get some helpful hints on what to put back in the dana 44 i got or where to find a housing because i think when it spun it cracked the houseing. i just moved to North Carolina and dont know the local shops like i did back in oklahoma.

Where in North Carolina?? Sucks that you lost your diff, but I'm not a whole lotta help there. Was it geared the same as the front?? Seems to me that wouldn't be good. Are the axles are O.K.?? Gotta post a little more info here - you'll get answers, trust me. Junkpile?? you listenin'???? (fellow North Carolinian)

Assuming that the housing is in good shape, I would rebuild your D44. Not sure what year bronco it is, but most of them have 8.8 rears which is only marinally stonger than a D44, regarless your gonna have to buy axles, cause the bronco rear is a lot wider than the jeep's also the wheel bolt pattern with have to be changed bronco's are 5 on 5.5 and jeeps are 5 on 4.5. Then your gonna have to rear gear some regardless, pllus any brake components (especially if the 8.8 has been sitting around) LALALALALA It goes on.

what size can I run?

Ok well forgive me if i mispell something or sound completely stupid but im not a big diff guy. I am in Greenville North Kakalaki and work in Tarboro. Currently the Jeep is at the Brown and Wood Stealership in Greenville. They tell me that a bearing locked which threw a "Race" which tore about a dozen teeth off "The big" gear, not the small spider ones. They also say they are having trouble finding a D44 Housing because my housing was somehow messed up when all this went south. I went to go look at it, not that i know what im looking at, but they had the diff cover off and rags stuffed in the ends of the axle. inside where all the gears were gone looked clean and fine i couldnt see any scratches or anything. going to go look at it again today so maybe you can tell me what to look for to see if they are just trying to get a few extra bucks out of me or what.

chat room?

you need a new ring and pinion, you may need a new carrier, (I would need to look in person) if you do need a new carriewr, then I would look into a selectable locker or a detroit locker....

I would head down to a local machine shop or a shop that builds axles and ask them what they think cause you might be able to ask them to look at the axle if it mean they might get your business... trust me DC does not need the money from you to turn a positive this year in the accounting department!

If it's teeth gone from the spider gears, weld that sucker up. You'll need new parts if it's a bad R&P. There's nothing else out there that performs as well as a Lincoln Locker.
