A recent trail inciDENT

A friend of mine was driving on what appeared to be an innocent part of a trail when he placed the oilpan dead on to the top of a pointed rock. Once having placed the Mighty YJ on it, he proceded to drag the rock using the underside of the YJ as a contact point.

This is what the oils pan looks like now.

Now for the question - Do I replace the oilpan? Do I get an oilpan skid plate? Should I just ignore it? Should I plead that I am busy when my friend wants to ride again?

Thanks for your help...

I say if that's the worst that's ever happened then you need to knock on wood. My steering column is scratched that bad.

I wouldn't worry about it, though if you're going through the trouble of replacing it you might as well get one with a skid

save your $$ and just build one. You can glue it on w/ some silcon adheisive. Besides it not that bad anyway.

Don't sweat changing it, just slap on a skid. A buddy of mine makes them to bolt on to the lower two bellhousing bolts. The skid goes forward and curves up in front of the pan sump. Cheap and easy, I've been running one for years.

The one he makes is similar to this one found at www.nthdegreemobility.com , but without the two front braces that bolt to the engine block. It's easy to make out of one or two pieces of 3/16" or 1/4" steel:
