I go to do a simple little oil change... And I make the mistake of looking at my wheel to figure out what's wrong that it's grinding and shuddering and clattering so much...
Brake caliper bolts somehow went AWOL. Not broken off, not stripped out, just somehow GONE, both of them. So brake caliper assembly began riding inside of the rim, grinding down both rim and caliper, and causing enough heat to destroy piston, which started leaking and popped out when I pulled the wheel off. Steering knuckle has gouges worn into the tracks that the pads ride due to the severe misalignment of the un-bolted caliper assembly. U-joint? Cracked in half... Axle bearings? Toast. Bumpstop? Flattened. Alignment? Please! Tire bought in May? 25% tread at it's best points, and the oddest freaking wear pattern I have ever seen in my life (it's like each tread part was cut at an angle, front to back)
If I didn't have bad luck, man... At least my buddy and brother are loaning me their respective Jeep so I can get to work till my oh-gawd-I-really-can't-afford-this wrenchfest day off Saturday...
OK, rant over.
