I am new to the forum My name is jeff I am looking to buy either a later YJ or a early TJ and I am planning to add a lift kit between 3 and 4 inches and tires between 32" and 33" as soon as I get it. I will do many more mods whenever the money is available but as I am only 16 now it will take a little time. The Jeep will be my daily driver but i would like to take it out every weekend if its possible. What i am wondering is whether the lift and tires will be fine for driving on the road/highway every day. I dont care wether the ride is rougher or whether it gets louder . Also, I know AT tires are real good offroad but it i invest in MT tires how will theybe onroad. Also, I live in Colorado so if you find any good deals throw them my way. I am looking to find something under $9000.
Thanks guys.

Do you guys think I should get a TJ or a YJ? I am new to this stuff and am not exactly clear with the difference. I know that the TJ is more expensive and more difficult to lift but will get much more flex. That is all i know.
Also, what other mods would you guys recommend for me to do? I would like to get a rough idea of how much i am going to spend. Will the stock setup handle the bigger tires alone? thanks for the input

If you have a budget consider possibly spending less on the jeep purchase allowing more to be spent on the correct lift and tires for your jeep and your terrain.

The TJ has 4wheel coil suspension while the YJ has leaf springs all the way around. You'll get as many recommendations here both ways, and most recommend what they own. A TJ has more comfort onroad, but can be more difficult and expensive to lift correctly. The YJ rides a little stiffer, but the lifts are cheaper and they tend to lift higher easier.

Yeah, if you're looking for a cheaper rig that is cheaper to lift, then try and find a low mileage stock YJ

Scout II axle swap

Yep, what Bounty said is correct. both have their advantages. As far as the tires, most mud terrain tires will be fine on the road. All terrain tires, however, are not always any good off road. If you're going with 32's or 33's, I would get the mud terrains. I currently have BFG M/T on my Jeep, and love them. While some say they are a little more spendy, they have a harder tread compound, so they wear nicely on the pavement. They also get very good traction, both on road and off.

Keep in mind that I'm biased to the YJ, but a YJ will be not only be cheaper to buy, lift, and maintain, but easier to work on.

Since the only real difference between the YJ and the TJ is suspension, either will work. of course since the YJ will be older they should be cheaper.
