RE: Would 2.5 inch suspension look good on 2" body &amp

Sorry to keep milking you guys for info -you just seem to have all the correct & reasonable answers! Thanks again.

Since Im not getting rid of my 87 YJ, I need to replace/upgrade many things. The RUST is a problem on mine. For example when I hit a puddle on the left, I need to make sure my left foot is in the corner covering the 2x4" hole, or else my ankles get soaked. The whole drivers side floor board from the pedals to behind the seat are rusty, paint is gone. Some areas are even caked enough where I can punch another hole if I wanted. Thats the worst of it. There are other areas like in front of the rear wheels (body), behind the fronts (body), and in some areas inching itself from the fender flares.

Like Ive mentioned over the past week I have a lift coming. I noticed today as I was PB Blasting the bolts for easier removal when the time comes, that I have some pretty rusty rear shock mounts(frame end). Were not talking spots here.. Try brittle layers of rust! Looks like a fat pastrami sandwich! Im worried that when i start going crazy with my new lift and tires that I be breaking the very foundation for the lift... Make sense?

Should I add the frame rust areas to the body areas in terms of what I plan on having fixed..?

BTW here is the jeep now(w/o the Hard top - I feel its a keeper)

Thank you

RE: Ever see these pictures

That's a nice looking ride!! As for the body rust, that's up to you. Me, I'd fix it before it spreads too far. Floorboard rust? Yeah, somewhere here there was a similar thread that advised welding in a new floor panel, but I can't find it right now. Frame rust? By all means, I'd fix that! My old Toyota 4x4 had the bed completely rusted through and not a spot on the cab, despite all the bare metal on the rockers. The cab was made in Japan, the bed in America, go figger. Anyway, the guy that bought it told me later that the frame was rusted through where the rear springs and shocks mounted, and on one side the shock mount had punched clear through the top of the frame! Gadzooks, I thought to myself while the look in my eyes couldn't hide it, that could have been catastrophic had I kept that truck and wheeled the way I always had!

Yeah, I wouldn't want my frame falling apart on top of my lift, so if you're good with a welder, patch it in. I think. I'm not good with a welder and really know nothing about them or what you can do with rusty frames...but get it fixed.
