engine identification numbers

Using the the Haynes manual I've located the engine number on my gal 93YJ which is 4M x 27. Where or who can I call to see when this engines year of manufacture was? The engine was relaced a few years ago and I believe it was replaced with a older year bcause it has the dreaded Peugeot transmission. Thanks in advance, Frank
