Exhaust Heat Problem

I have been noticing lately that the floor on my Jeep has been getting extremely hot, almost too hot to touch after I've been driving for a little bit. I don't think this is something new but rather that I just noticed it. I was wondering if anyone knows how I can help stop this problem. Maybe install some type of big heat shield?

A heat shield would be a good idea. Do you have any carpet?

Yeah i have carpet now but am planning herculiner this weekend actually. I am wondering how exactly to make a heat shield. There is a heat shield above the muffler now but how can i make one that works better?

synthetic gear oil?

carpet stinks or at least it will eventually if it gets wet often as mine did. Hurculiner/rhino liner type stuff and a set of thick rubber walmart/kmart/autozone floormats. It's a Jeep thing :(

Summit sells some adhesive backed heat shield material. It will require thoroughly cleaning the underbody nefore installing, but should do the trick.
Herculiner sucks. Get the Bondo liner from Advance Auto Parts. It is cheaper but way more durable.

what hard doors will fit my cj7??

Sounds to me like you have a cat starting to get stopped up causeing the heat to build up. Beat on it a bit and see if it rattles inside that is a good way to see if it has gone south. Either way get rid of it and you be glad you did. But my money is on a bad cat, like there is such a thing as a good one. tug
