Front Axle

What front axle out there would be able to turn 37"-39" tires without breaking on the trails? I know the Dana 60, but they are expensive and VERY hard to find one with the driver-side diff..... the market is flooded with ford D60 though...

The front axle will NEVER see as much torque as a rear axle will. If a D35 in 2wd can handle 100% of the torque to turn 35s (threshold).. then the D30 can turn more than that being that it will never get more than +/-50% of the torque required to move the vehicle.

But consider the amount of leverage placed on the puny D30 with the weight and size of those tires. Not to mention the housing being able to withstand that much unsprung weight.

I had 39" Firestones on a D30. It was amazing. Very easy to break if you do the wrong thing, but surprisingly strong if you remember what NOT to do. For a trail rig, it would never hold up to any power no matter what you do to it.

I know a guy that's been spinning 39" Boggers for about three years with a YJ D30 that only has a set of Warn shafts in it......it's powered by a 2.5L and is damn impressive to see.

It would hole 'em alot better than a D30 would. Especially if you upgraded the axle shafts. The locker might make it more prone to breakage, though.
