Gears, 4.56 or 4.88?

want to go to the paragon, but kinda leary

I want to re-gear in about a month and am stuck between 4.56 and
4.88. I'm running a Dana 30 with 4.10 & Dana 35 with 4.11 on 33" mud
tires and a 4" lift. Will the 4.88's be too much for my stock axle
shafts?

no.. the 4.88's won't be too much for the axle shafts... you can go with 76.40's if they made them... what you have to worry about is the tires... and 33's should be fine.. but the lower gears will bring up the factor of fuel economy

Go with the 4.88, you will be fine. 4.10 to 4.56 is not enough of a change to warrant the time, $$, and labor.

i have 4.56 gers in my axles with 33's and love them, however i may need to repalce them when i move up to 37's

Tough to give a recommendation from such a generalization. Your tolerance of a given gear ratio will be affected by more than just tire size. It'd be fair to also mention which engine and transmission you have.

and.... along with bounty's statement... it is really not the best idea to be putting 37's on the end of the toothpick axleshafts of the d35... yeah, the gears will help with making the torque to turn such a tire... but the shafts may not be able to handle such torque

wouldn't 4.88s be a little overkill for 33s.

I will be going to 35's in the future. Both gears will turn 33 & 35's but for now I'm running 33's.
