This isn't the normal what gears should I use, its a what gears do I have question. On my 75 CJ-5, I tore half the teeth off my front ring and I'm trying to get a new one. The only problem is I don't know what the gearing is. I counted the gears and there are about 55 and on the ring it has the numbers 12 10 73, 33428 43084, 47-11, and 091. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Nevermind guys, false alarm. I figured it out, I have 4.27 gears. Now I just have to find someone that sells that ratio, that'll be the fun part. :?

The important number on the ring gear for determining your gear ratio was 47-11, dividing 47 (ring gear teeth) by 11 (pinion teeth).

4.27 is correct, check Drivetrain Direct or Randy's Ring and Pinion.

how did you strip the gear? were they oem? if you dont go w/ dana gears go with precision gears. dont take a crap shoot with Randy's Yukon gears

I really don't know how I did it, but I was in a mud hole and the front stopped grabbing and got me stuck (I swear if I had 4wd I wouldve got out. ) I just ordered my new set from 4wd.com

4.27??? are those stock gears???

Your guess is as good as mine, this Jeep has gotten around like a cheap hooker, the last owner didn't even have it long enough to get the registration papers back.
