high steering

im planning on doing a spring over on my yj some time in the near future and ive run into the steering issue to plan out. ive read a little bit about high steering, but could some one clear me up on how its done and what gets changed, bolted where welded where etc?

The histeer kits for the YJ D30 usually come with brackets that bolt to the steering knuckles, raising the point of attachment for the tierod. You have to raise this point a lot on a SOA to clear the leaf springs.

You can simply bend the draglink slightly to clear the passenger side leaf spring, and run the stock steering setup with a drop pitman arm. Easier and cheaper.

Rubicon express sells a hi-stear kit, also the wagon shop and a number of other vendors.

wow... the tie rod on that one is still below the springs... the few i've seen protected the tie rod above... heck... with a setup like that.. might as well just go dropped and bent

The steering issue is the reason I've had to put off my spring over for quite a while. You can either go with the high steer conversion or just get a bent tie rod. I've checked out a few other sites and asked around a lot and the high steer is apparantly a lot better and easier for alignments. I've heard the bent tie rod works very good and is a good, cheaper way of doing the steering after an SOA. I've also heard the high steer handles much better both on and off road for some reason. The high steer is expensive so I'm gonna wait and save my cash for it.
