Ive got a 84 cj7 thats in desperate need of a good enema i dont want to run all that junk that helped ruin my old moter through this new one, I know the basics on how to do it but wanted some more advice before i went and half@$$ did it without another opinion, its a plastic gas tank otherwise id just replace it, if ya got any ideas or suggestions it would be much appreciated :roll:

Bite the bullet and get yourself a new plastic "poly" tank! It would be more trouble and time than it would be worth to take it off and try to clean it. If it has any rust the more youtry to clean it the more your going to loosen the problem rust in doing so. Plus if it is the orginal tank it going to go soon anyway. Just my thoughts. tug

Keep the plastic tank, it's easy to remove, drain, and clean. How'd this plastic tank get junk in it anyway?
If you don't want to drop the tank, just add some SeaFoam additive that's available at Napa and other automotive parts stores and change the fuel filter a few times. You shouldn't ruin the engine with a good fuel filter, it should stop anything harmful.

Best way to clean it out right is to take it out. While your in there change the fuel lines. Then go under the hood and change the fuel filters and lines. And if the jeep still is lacking in power or running like crap. Put an extra fuel filter before the fuel pump. Make sure you get the clear fuel filters. That way you can check and see if you have got crap running through your fuel lines.
