I am looking to buy a 93 wrangler renegade and was wondering what kind of lift i could put on it. I was told you couldnt put body lifts on them. I'm sure the suspension lifts would still work wouldnt they? thanks

You could do suspension lifts, Spring Over Axle (SOA), or body lifts. From what I have read, too much body lift is not such a great idea... so dont go overboard. SOA is a great option, but it is the one that requires the most work (also has the best flex, though), and spring suspension is the easiest one to do (but if you go too high, the ride can become rough). I dont have any lift installed, but once the end of year (fiscal year) bonuses are given next month, I am planning on getting a Rubicon Express Standard 4" lift for my '94... If you DO go over 3.5"~4", you will probably need to fit a Slip Yoke Eliminator to your rig... Otherwise, it may get a bad case of "the Shakes!" from driveline vibrations cause by the angle of the drive shaft.

Just look online, and you will find TONS of option! Here are some sites for you to check out...

These are just a few of the ones I looked up when deciding what to do with my rig, but there are MANY more out there...

you can do any combo mensioned above you could also do a shackle lift (which i personally wouldn't recommend) I have a 2" body lift and 4.5" re suspension lift i personally wouldn't go more then 2" body lift

I have a '93. The very first mod I did was a BDS 3.5" lift. That allowed me to put 33X12 tires on it. I got 5" of lift before everything settled into place. I do get some great articulation with it.

Be careful of what other mods you do. I put a FIPK air system on the Mighty YJ. My big plan was to put a 1" body lift on it to get 35" tires on it when my current tire wear out. Unfortunately, the FIPK uses a cold air box. In order to do a 1" body lift, I will also have to space up the cold air box and install a throttle body spacer now.

I have had some breakage with the BDS leaf springs. Once, after running Yankee Boy Basin above Ouray, Colorado the shackle end busted. I had to drive to Durango to get some replacement leaf springs. Although BDS does offer a guaranteed replacement, they like to inspect the broken parts before issuing the remuneration. This happened 2 days into a week long vacation and I did not want to carry the broken ones for the rest of the vacation, so I ate the cost.

Then in Moab, I was not happy with the ride on Poison Spider Mesa so I checked and the lowest leaf spring on the driver side rear was busted in half (one good reason to carry duct tape). I ordered the replacements and will send the broken ones back soon.

As far as the shakes, that is a matter of vehicle geometry. BDS offers shims that can correct for bad pinion angles. I changed the shim from a 4 degree to a 6 degree and the shaking vibrations stopped immediately. So did a lot of u-joint changing on trails!

It's all worth it when you get to see some wonderful back country sights like this one -

However, slip yoke eliminators are a great idea no matter what. Eventually I will get a set...

With the hose between the two you shouldn't need to do anything to the FIPK, the hose will act to take up any small change in distance between the frame and tub/fender.

The only difference in the Renegade YJ and the other YJ's is the bulbous fender flares. Any type of YJ lift will work.
