Minimum amount of bodylift for a belly up?

I'm hoping to do my spring over by the end of this summer if finances allow me to. I have a 3" bodylift now and I want to take most of it out when I do the spring over. I'm gonna cut the body mounts just short enough to allow me to do a belly up. What's the minimum amount of bodylift I need to do a belly up? What's the minumum amount of space I should have between the top of my transmission and the floorboards? Has anyone fabbed up a new skidplate for a belly up? Any pics? Thanks.
 

I'll be making my flat skid one of these days, it'll have a seperate transmission mount that I'm making from two TJ/XJ front track bars, cutting off the ball joint end and using the bushing ends. The bushing ends will bolt to two tabs welded inside each frame rail, tp support the drivetrain, then the skid will bolt up with no holes or bolts protruding. I can also drop the skid without supporting the drivetrain.

I'd leave .5" between the transmission and tub, and shoot for 1" to 1.5" of body lift. It may help to massage the bottom of the tub with a rubber mallet if you need more clearance.
 

Power sterring loss while fording water

Does anyone know how much room is between the transmission and floorboards when there's no bodylift and no drop down brackets on the skid....basically what the clearance is when it's stock?...this is what I'm gonna aim for when I cut my bodylift.
 
The guy to talk to about this is firemanharry. I saw his jeep in person and he did an awesome job on the belly up skid. The skid is totally flat with the bottom of the frame rail, I believe he did a 3 inch bodylift and engine lift. He posted pics of it a while back when it was getting close to finished. If you catch him on here pick his brain while you can, he's not on the board that much anymore.
