need help from yj guys

im at the end of my rope. I have whined and complained enough about my '94YJ that is starting/running intermittently. BUT have a favor to ask. I just replaced my cps and want to test a theory i heard. I was told that there would be no reading on the tach if the cps was bad. Can someone with a WORKING YJ with a 4 banger pull the coil wire off and tell me if there is any tach reading when you crank it? I would appreciate it.

wadesbrain, since i've evidently given you bad advice, i will (tomorrow - too late tonight), do what you have asked (mudwoman's 94 YJ 4banger runs fine). I'll get back to ya.


i feel real bad for ya, bro, so I went out and did it (12:40 am). No reading on the tach.......but on a side note, before I took the coil wire off, I cranked it normally and of course it started. But before it started (cranking only - coil wire attached), there was no reading on the tach, either. Don't know if this helps, but perhaps it'll answer a question. Man, wish I could help you.

If you un-plug the coil, the engine will stop running. so yes the tach will not read.

color might be wrong but the purple/white wire onff the coil is the tack signal.
