well here we go again lol. ive tried reading on it but cant seem to find what im looking for. so here goes. motor off, can shift fine, while moving can shift fine, but when still or stopped at a light for example have trouble putting the thing in gear, if i hold the clutch in for a min it will go in gear ok but cant just hit the clutch put it in gear and go like used to . once i do drive for a bit though it does get alittle easier to get it into gear from a stopped position. the jeep did sit for a little bit and i am living in northern new york so it is really cold and for those of u who havent seen the news we have had snow for like 2 weeks straight. i have looked at the haynes manual for help on bleeding the clutch but i dont see a bleeder valve where it says it should be ???? also i went and bought some penns syncromesh to change the transmission fluid but kinda confused on which plug to use to fill it . and will 3 qts be enough thats all the store had. by the way its a 95 yj with 2.5l 5spd. thanks for any help i feel like and idiot but im not used to messing with 5 spd vehicles especially not jeeps , this is my first one.

Welcome and all I can say is it is either really cold or the synchros are getting rough. Synchromesh can help, as can Redline MT90.

Could be your slave cylinder, see if any fluids are leaking under your trans, and I fill my fluid up beside my mastercylinder, it takes the same fluid

thanks, do you mean beside the slave cyl. there is just too many plugs on this transmission lol by the way i drained out the transmission fluid and it looked engine oil does when its new weird huh ???? aint it supposed to always be red

I kind of have the same problem when shifting into first gear from the stopped position. Ussually I just go into third before going into 1st, and it works fine this way. I know it is not supposed to be like this, but I just got used to it by now. Was like that since I got the Jeep about 6 months ago.

By the way, mine is a 94YJ with 2.5L 5spd. So let me know when you find what the problem is and how to change it, because I already did a fluid change and I still have the problem.

No, auto transmission fluid is red.

Did it have shiny particles in it? If so that's brass from your synchronizers and likely caused by someone putting GL5 oil in it instead of GL3 which is what it should have. GL5 has sulpher... bad for brass.

lol yeh i realized the color diff after i opened the new stuff , like i said im new to working on manual vehicles , i have had them in the past but never had to do anything to them, and yeh there was a good bit of metal on the magnet took me a few mins to clean it all out. put some syncromesh in it and it seemed to help alittle , i think i need another qt though autozone only had 3 and havent been able to find anyone else around here that sells it .

I would still suspect something along the lines of the hydraulic clutch system. Personally, it sounds like the slave isn't fully engaging unless you hold it in a while. When moving, the synchronizers will help in shifting. Sitting still, they don't do a whole lot.
My AX15 holds 3 1/4 quarts. Not sure about the AX5 you have.

would the slave have anything to do with being able to push the clutch all the way to the floor. i was gonna try to bleed the system today cause the master and slave look relitively new , but i cant find a bleeder valve anywhere , the haynes manual says it on the pass side up at the top but there is nothing there. also today i noticed that when im coming to a stop and down shiftin that when i get to first right before i stop it kinda makes a low pitch whining. this whole jeep is drivin me crazy , got clutch issues ,rear axle not straight and now the brakes seem to be rubbing or something is when im going slow like coasting to a stop or something. plus its only around 15 deg outside while im trying to work on this thing .

Lone, as far as I know (and I am not 100% sure, so please correct me if I am wrong), when you downshift, you should not downshift into 1st, as the geaing ratio is typically to high, and you make the synchro work overtime if you do not carefully match the RPM's to the movement of the axle...

If the previous owner put in an aftermarket pre-bled master/slave assembly, there isn't a bleeder on it. At least that's how mine is.
As far as pushing it all the way to the floor, that's normal. Mine starts to engage at about 1/4 of the way down and is completely engaged about 1/2 way down.

Yup... never downshift into first.

well i dont do it all the time usually stopp at 2nd , but been trying to catch what all noises i can to try and fix every thing , and when i do it im not really moving that much just like right before i come to a complete stop and i always use my brakes too just not as hard of course . but i will take yalls advise and stop downshifing all together since it seems to be having clutch problems , whatever they might be .. far as the slave goes there does seem to be some kind of screw or something on top but can fig out what it is or size kinda feels like an alen but i tried everyone i had and couldnt get one to work, so is there not always a bleed valve on the actually transmission housing like haynes manual says????

The '95 doesn't have a bleeder for the clutch master cylinder, gotta pump the heck out of it and work any air out that way.

Sounds like you need a clutch job, yours is on the way out.

pump it as in pumpin the pedal or pump out the master cyl and refilling it. and by clutch job to you mean getting a clutch kit. thats another 2-300 to get just the kit aint it ?

well i replaced all the transmission fluid with the syncromesh and it seemed to work for a little bit but now its not doing anything.
