ok 2 or 3 inch body lift?

Watch for clearance at the bottom of the fan shroud, and you may need to enlarge the shifter openings in the tub if you experience trouble shifting into 4lo, 2nd, 4th, and reverse. That should be about it.

I recommend keeping the body lift as short as possible, more leverage is placed in the body, body mounts, and body bolts the higher you go. Not to mention the shorter shifters and the unsightlyness of tall body lifts.

should I do the belly up kit at the same time?

So does my daughter, drives my wife crazy that she's got a little tomboy in her

It's a good opportunity to do a belly up, but you're opening up a can of worms. You'll need to fab a motor mount lift, I haven't seen anything out there for the 4.2L setup. You'll also need a slipyoke eliminator kit (SYE) and CV rear driveshaft due to the increased angle of the rear driveshaft. May also need a CV front driveshaft. XJ's and TJ's are good donors.

I plan on a belly up one of these days, already have the transfer case mount planned that will be seperate from the belly up skidplate. No bolts to hang down and snag, and the driveline will stay up with the skid removed. Just waiting on the time to head over to my buddies shop and start fabbing.

So in theory I could get a 1 inch body lift, get the bulletproof 1 inch lift motor mounts, replace the transfer mount with a regular size and get a flat skid plate? I should be ok with the drive shafts with the stock suspension but I'll need to go to a cv system before I suspension lift right?

no, if you go flat, you are raising the drivetrain about 3 inches.... and usually when you bring the Tcase and the axle apart that long, you would drop the transfercase to make up for it.. which is obviously not gonna happen in this situation.. the stock driveshaft would not work, and you would need a cv system

CJ-7 WANTED for project

The CJ has a fixed yoke on the rear of the transfer case and a longer rear driveshaft. You can move a CJ axle further down from the drivetrain, or the drivetrain up, without modification, than you can a YJ with the stock slip yoke.

You'll need a SYE if you plan on installing a belly-up skid, really no way around it.
