Rubicon

I had to kill an hour last night and swung by a local Jeep dealership. I looked over the varying models and found out a couple of interesting things:

1. I didn't know the Rubicon doesn't have a slip-yoke. It has a fixed output from the transfer case - very cool. by the way, an Unlimited that had a D44 (not a Rubicon) still had the slip yoke so it is a Rubicon feature and not a D44 feature.

2. The new SE (base) model with 4 cyl's come in a 6 speed manual and have 3.78 gears now instead of 4.11's. The new SE model with an automatic have a 4.0L also with 3.78 gears.

Good news on the Rubi's Tcase output, maybe it will be standard in '07 when they redesign again.

Cool the base model can have a 6 cyl, but bummer you can't get it with a manual trans :?

the rubis have always had the fixed yoke, thats part of the 241OR tcase. the new 6 speed transmission is pretty beef too, i dont kno how well 6 gears would work when lifted but hell its there. i dont like the 3.78s in the 4cyl tho, i imagine junkyards are going to get ravaged for 4.10s

The switch to a 3.78 ratio is probably to offset the lower gearing in the six speed a little. It more than likely still has more mechanical advantage in all gears than the old AX5/4.11 combo.

these are the ratios for the nsg370, the six speed
4.46 2.61 1.72 1.25 1.00 0.84
the ax-5 ratios
3.93 2.33 1.44 1.00 .79
they just added a smaller third gear, kind of pointless but i geuss it may be more efficient? personally im learning to drive a three speed seeing as ill have a 6.68 first gear and wont be able to use it unless im at a deadstop. talk about regression.

There is a big difference between the ratios in those boxes. First through third is lower, they added a gear before the final 1:1, and the overdrive is a lower ratio. By going to a taller axle ratio they have brought the overdrive cruising RPM back down, and lengthened the duration of first. It's better all around in the 4 banger because it means less rpm drop between gears and allows you to take better advantage of that engines powerband. Whether or not it's a positive with the 4.0 is doubtful, but since the 3.7 V6 is coming it will be better there too.

brake line woes

With all the new stuff coming out jeep they finally did something right. That 6spd is something else! Smooth and low like a granny gear out of first. I like it alot.

its already in the LJ's behind the 4.0, the new 2.4 has the same bellhousing pattern as the 4.0 so they are interchangeable unlike the ax-5 to the ax-15 or nv3550. it is a cool transmission though, kind of relevant to the nv4500 in gearing but not quite as strong

Yes, the 4cyl is all new, no longer is it a 2.5 but now a 2.4, and puts out a little more juice!

I have also heard that the 3.7 v6 will be replacing the 4.0..... My friends wife just bought a new GC with the 3.7V6 in it's performance form (it is a little different I guess from that found in KJ's) and it is a peppy motor, likes to rev high, good power feel, and plenty of the low end!

Also, the fixed yoke on the rubi's are designed to be like the AA SYE, but other than that they share nothing in common!

Now JB conversions is releasing a "shorter SYE"

PS those prices are for Brand new SYE equipted T cases from New process. Not the SYE hehe

Well, not exactly new. They first stuck 'em in the '03's (mine). And I don't believe them about the "little more juice"......think my wife's 2.5 has a little more power than mine. But I would like to try one of those 6 speeds!

Re: RE: Re: RE: Gettin

dont mean to burst your bubble but the super short SYE has been out for well over a year if not two years and just to clarify that 231HD is from a dodge truck and has a wider chain (its an 1.25 instead of 1")

I know but I have not seen info on it posted here before and though I would share it...

RE: Re: RE: Winsheild channel hardware for Bestop...a questi

I guess that might actually be a good deal, seeing as you would have a new t case and a sye already installed. Do they have a core charge?
