I am looking at getting the Rubicon in addition to the CJ7...,. What do yall think of them? Worth it? Anyone selling one. I have been looking on Ebay. I want a new used with a few thousand miles. under 10,000. Help me out guys. Thanks!

I don't think you are going to find a TJ Rubicon for that price. Didn't they start the "Rubicon" in 2003 and they were 30+k maybe at a repo auction but I don't think so.

Thanks!

Blah... tomb raider edition.

Yes, Rubicon's are worth it. If you find a slightly used one for under $20, you are doing good. Generally brand-new vehicles loose value the second you drive it off the lot. They retail for $26,500, so finding one around $20k shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.

Always, never forget the little people. Well i am gonna try to finish paying off my truck . Will be sometime this year. Then I wanna Rubi! I might sell the CJ later on, but not yet. She is a classic.

21K for that rubi would be a real good deal. looks like the owner already tore off most of the stupid Tomb raider junk and replaced it with better equipment!

Tug is a busy man

it would be preferable to find a rubi driven by a college kid who drove it for the image/name... they don't do too much wheelin... it would be all street miles

Yeah I saw that one too, gonna try to pay my truck off first. But, that is a nice one. I was hoping to find one on the East coast though. So, I could drive to get it.

They are definitely nice.Very sweet jeep.I dont even want to put my opinions down on this post.I dont want to influence you on my opinion and discourage you from buying what you want.

I own a '03 Rubicon and have been extremely pleased. I know there are a lot of Jeepers out there that enjoy flaming Rubi owners (and maybe alot of them deserve it if they bought a Rubi to pound pavement with) but I also know there's a lot of jealousy involved. It is truly an amazing stock vehicle and will satisfy the needs of many off-roaders but the adage that "real Jeeps aren't bought, their built," still holds true with the Rubi as well. Albeit they have a great head start as their delivered, you'll still want to add aftermarket bumpers, tire carrier, winch, skid plates for the differentials, steering box and better skids for the belly and gas tank. You'll probably end up doing some sort of lift and larger tires, convert the factory roll bar to a six-point cage, better air intake and exhaust, etc. However, even with all of this, you will still come ahead because you've already got a better transmission, transfer case, front and rear lockers, and front and rear Dana 44s.

In my case, while I'd love to build a Jeep from the ground up but based on past experience, the money to do this just never seems to be available.

Hey, good luck on whatever you decide. Let us know. 8)

Pardon me while I reply to your post, and no, it's not jealousy, or Rubi envy

Okay, you've got the same transfer case but with 4:1 gearing and no slipyoke. You've got the ring&pinions and shafts of a real D44, yet the axle tubes are the same wall thickness as the weak D35. I don't understand how you think the Rubi has a better transmission than another '03 or '04 4.0L TJ.
This leaves you with the advantage of lower axle gearing and front and rear lockers. Is that worth $6000 to $10,000 more than the X model?

Money, you spent $26K to $30K on average  If you're going to add "aftermarket bumpers, tire carrier, winch, skid plates for the differentials, steering box and better skids for the belly and gas tank. You'll probably end up doing some sort of lift and larger tires, convert the factory roll bar to a six-point cage, better air intake and exhaust, etc." to it, you might as well get a base 4.0L TJ and install some real D44's.

Okay, stepping down from the soapbox. The Rubi is a great jeep, best off-the-shelf package ever offered. And it does what a lot of people want it to do, and unfortunately for some, that's restricted to the Mall.

I can understand not having the time, experience, or shop to build a comparable jeep, but not having the money?

Actually, the T-case is not the same.It is a 241 not a 231.I would say the same thing, but it not me who is buying the jeep.I dont want to make them feel the way I do.

TJ gas filler

Thanks for the correction, so it's a NP241OR, and has a larger main shaft and wider chain. Still doesn't add up to $6K to $10K for the difference.

If I didn't have the garage, time, and fun of building my jeep, along with being able to take on a large payment, I might get one. I just wouldn't have as much fun cause I can't imagine putting a Rubi through what I put my jeep through

Dont want to put a scratch on the new rubi now do we???

I wouldn't want to. We were wheelin at the Badlands when a jeeper (not in our group) laid his wife's brand new Rubi on its side, had about 150mi on it and temp tags. He shouldn't have rolled where he did, total lack of experience. He might not have gotten in trouble but I think the lockers are too much for inexperienced jeepers, just gets them in over their head fast.
