I just installed a TFI ignition upgrade. After hooking it up and checking the timing many times, this problem still remains. Every 2 out of 3 starts results in I can only describe as Kick Back. When I turn the key to start it, I hear this god awefull noise and I see smoke comming from the carbuerator. When I try the second time, it will start fine. I tried retarding the timing and it didnt help at all. Hopefully you smart people might be able to give me a hand here. Thanks in advance. :?:

Just to let everyone know for future info. Turns out that on the Duraspark II module, there is a white wire that should be connected to the start wire from the ignition. This retards the timing about 7 degrees and aids in starting. Now on my jeep, the wire was connected, but was not getting the start signal  . I guess with the old ignition it was not important, but with the new high power ignition, it showed up. Just something to check if you are having starting problems. Thanks
