I have access to an 88 Dana 35, which I am told does not have c clips. I was thinking about running this with a truss and a lockright until I am eventually out of school and can afford that nice CHP that I want. What do you guys think? A waste? Or worth the insurance?

Its got 3.07s I think, not 4.10s unfortunately. But I can have it regeared for 50 bucks plus gears so I can change gears at a minimal cost...

The only benefit to this swap is the axle won't walk out of the housing if the shaft breaks. You still have the narrow taper to the weak shafts, where they commonly break. Is the $150 to $200 towards regearing the non c-clip axle worth that only benefit?

not to mention likely having to replace seals and brakes on the new axle.

For the cost of the regear, and the cost of the lockright, you can get a Ford 8.8 or any D44.

Yeah I was just looking at something that I could bolt up for now. I have another year in college and dont have time to weld and all that stuff. I think I am just going to wait until I get done with school and buy a CHP 9"

You can get the XJ/MJ D44 for around $125 in certain junkyards around here. You'd be amazed at what you find when you start beating the bushes looking.

Is your D35 with c-clips broken? Then why replace it to use for only 1 year? What size tires you runnin? My theory is don't replace it until it's broken. Seems like you want to dump money into something temporary. Not a wise investment in my eyes.
