RE: AMC 20 axles?
I live in an area of IL where we have emissions testing every 2 yrs. All they do on a model as old as mine (79) is a sniffer in the tail pipe at idle. I thought my results may interest some of you out there...
In July of 2003 my results were the following:
Hydrocarbons: 298 PPM
Carbon Monoxide: 0.8%
Carbon Dioxide: 12.4%
Today my readings were:
Hydrocarbons: 19 PPM
Carbon Monoxide: 0.1%
Carbon Dioxide: 13.4%
All I have done since 2003 that would affect emissions (besides change the fluids and air filter, of course) is the TFI upgrade. I have not adjusted any carb mixtures, timing, etc. I am amazed that my HC (unburned fuel) dropped over 90%, and carbon monoxide went down quite a bit too. The guy told me that it would pass limits for modern vehicles in the state. Not too shabby.
*Results may vary.
