What he's saying is that would be about 9.5" of lift on a narrow, short wheelbased Jeep. There is a point at which you have to wonder if it becomes to unstable to be worth it. It's not like you have a full size Super Duty and need 10" of lift an 44's. A well built Jeep with 36" tires can do more than most big trucks can with 44's. Just my 2 cents

Very true. My Jeep on 33's and around 9" of lift (was going to get bigger tires but sold it first :wink: ) would go more places than my Chevy on 44's will...except for the deep mud.

For trails, I would stay well under 39's. Otherwise you'll be breaking stuff left and right...everytime you go out.
 

i got 33's on her nowand would like to go bigger, some of the trails i bottom out on and i guse the 4" lift might be a little much but i would like bigger tires.

what would I break? u-joints? I've seen jeeps with 39's and like the look. I'd like enough lift to run bigger tires and have room for flex, although I'll have alot cut out of the wheel wells, so i won't have to worry about rub that much. I just don't want to break stuff, can I avoid breakage and run big tires or vise versa?
 
U joints, axles...

If you want to run 39" or 44" tires and you have stock axles, driveshafts, etc., then be prepared for costly damage if you plan on wheeling it. I doubt anyone will disagree with that statement.

OK, than i'll start looking for a Dana44 and Dana60, going 1pc is worth it? Would a Ford 9" work?
 

9 Inch would be a little smaller than the D60. The ideal would be D60 rear and D60 front...but D60 fronts can be really hard to find for a descent price.

You'd still probably want chromo axle shafts in the front and all that good stuff. Also, make sure they're 8 lug, 3/4 ton axles and not the 6-lugs.

If you want the bigger tires then I say go for it. There's plenty of Jeeps out there with 39's and bigger and they are awesome!!

Rear D44s CAN live with 39" tires. The carrier and cluster is going to blow apart......so you need to go with a full locker or spool, and that problem is fixed......the factory 30 spline shafts are going to snap, so you upgrade to aftermarket and the problem is fixed.......the housing can bend, so you truss it and that problem is fixed.....it takes alot of money and parts to make one do it, but they CAN survive in a SWB. If keeping the Jeep as light as possible is a concern then they can be a good thing even if it does still break a part every now and then. Any other time, it's not worth it to mess with one at that level. The same goes for a semi-float D60. I wouldn't even bother finding a full-float D60 for the rear either. Go 1ton GM. They are plenty strong and already setup for a SOA. It takes a small amount of fab work(or an aftermarket kit) to mount them under your Jeep, but it's an easy swap. Use the 14bolt rear and the D60 front from under a 1ton GM pickup or Suburban. You don't really need to do squat to these to run 39s. If you can't find a 1ton, find a 3/4ton. Then you will have the same superstrong 14bolt rear but with a HD D44 front. That D44 will usually handle 39s in a little Jeep.
 
Could i just go to the junk yard and get some there or should i look for a private seller? 3/4 ton or 1 ton GM axles like wrangles said "8 bolt", and 14 bolt refers to the diff cover right?
