TJ flares on a CJ7

Ok, I needed more room in those fenders. So I went ahead and bought some used TJ flares off ebay. Well now they are here and I want to know the best way to go about this thing. They dont exactly fit perfectly or bolt right up. So enlighten me guys, how should I get started on this project?

I hope you are ready to do some slicing and dicing on that rust-free CJ of yours. :D

It's a great mod to do and after it's done, you won't regret cutting on your baby. I like to cut the rib off of the back of the flare. In the back, there isn't a whole lot of options except to position it as far forward as possible without cutting into the wheeltub. On the front fenders, the flare will come all the way back to where the fender meets the body so the inner fender in that area needs some modification. Just cut a little at a time if you're not sure about the whole thing. Once you tape the flares to the side of the Jeep to lay out the cut lines, it will become pretty obvious what all is involved.

See pics of my Jeep in previous posts such as Rig of the Month. You can get some major tire clearance if you are ready to get jiggy with the sawzall. I have a spring over with cut fenders and running 39.5 boggers with no clearance issues. All you need is a sawzall or body saw, Magic Marker, tape and utility knife with some fresh blades.
PM me with any more questions.
