TJ Hardtop Color

My TJ is black but my top is tan, has anyone had any experience in painting one, lets say, black? If so, what kind of paint would you use and would you follow with some sort of clear coat or is this just not recommended? Thanks

my white yj had a gray top and it looked like crap. when i got the jeep painted i asked about the top. the guy painted it black for me with regular car paint and did put clearcoat on it. on my camo yj my top was flat black and since it is just a fun toy i rattle canned it gloss. looks pretty good to. the only tip i have for painting is to spend twice as long on prep as you actually do painting.

Remember that your hardtop is made of fiberglass. Ordinary car paint and rattle can paint may work well for your application. Do apply a good coating of primer before the paint layer. I'm not sure if self-etching primer would be better on fiberglass than a flat primer. Do some research about painting fiberglass if you're looking for a quality paint job, or even better tips. Let us know how it turns out (and post pictures)!
