Transfer Case drop mounts

Included with my 2-1/2" RE lift kit was a 1" transfer case drop kit.

Next spring's modifications (budget limit reached this year!) will include a SYE coinciding with a rear axle swap, using the Explorer 8.8.

I know they recommend the kit, or they wouldn't have sent it, but I need some feedback as to whether or not it is really neccessary.

Thanks.

I have a 2 1/2" lift on my YJ with the t-case drop and it seems to be at it's limit. Without the drop I'm sure the driveshaft would pull right out at full articulation. It'll also help with driveline vibrations. If you have the drop kit then I would go ahead and do it since it's a very simple mod and doesn't take too long if the bolts aren't rusted.

You could probably get by without the drop kit if you insure two things:
  • The rear pinion is parallel with the TC rear output at ride height (or 1º down)
You install a longer driveshaft or longer slipyoke to ensure enough slipyoke spline engagement
