Transmission swap question

Ok, I have a 78 CJ7 w/304. It has the T150/Dana20. In the garage I already have a World Class T5 with a Dana 300. Now this may not be the most desirable combo it is better than what I have now.

So this weekend I am swapping them out. Well when I got the transmission up in there I just couldn't get it to go all the way in. It comes up about 1/2 to an inch short. I am using the bell housing from a 258 6cyl but am still using the 304 fly wheel, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and clutch disc. I also had to put in the 6cyl pilot bushing due to different size on the input shaft. Well when I look at Oreily's Auto Parts web site this is what comes up on the two differnt jeeps pressure plates.....

78 CJ7....FINGER/LEVER TYPE 10 1/2" (267mm) x 1 1/16" x 10T SPLINE

84 CJ7....DIAPHRAGM TYPE 10 1/2" (267mm) x 1 1/8" x 10T SPLINE

Could this be my problem? Do I need the fly wheel from the 84 and all of the clutch parts as well? Is that 1/16 of an inch difference in the two going to be a problem?

Whew!! That is one heavy sucker to be pulling in and out over and over. Thanks for any help!!

Sounds like you need a new clutch.

Yes, the 1/16" would make a big difference.
