Hi guys new to this site. I bought a 89 jeep a couple months back and am just now getting around to messin with it..it has a 6 cyl auto and i acquired a 304 a while back which needs rebuilt but before i spend some dollars on will it fit in this jeep? I mean i know it will fit but what kind of problems should i expect? Will it bolt up to the transmission or do i need a adapter? I have just never done this to a jeep. Fords and chevy i would know a little but this is greek to me! Any help would be great thanks

I've got a 90 YJ with a 360. Bolted up to the 999 no problem, Torque converter didn't last long though. Am currently swapping in a TF 727 from a Grand Wagoneer. Only problem so far is the 231 Tcase doesn"t seem to want to slide all the way on. Goes within 1/2 an inch and stops. Big thing though. You have to use the flywheel made for the engine you are putting in. AMC's are externally balanced. Otherwise modify your engine mounts or get some from Advance Adapters, and your in.
