Xfer case sticking in 4WD high

Started happening recently...once it does pop out of 4hi it is loud and violent. Shudders the whole Jeep. Checked transmission fluid, seems to be full, good color and doesn't smell funny. This was after I used 4hi in heavy rain on-road. Not sure what else I could check or if I just need to take it in for service.

is yours a push button shifter? mine, i have to manually disengage so i know its out when i move it

His is a manual shift lever similar to yours.

Likely low on transfer case fluid. I would go ahead and drain the transfer case and fill with fresh ATF. The fill and drain plugs are both on the back of the transfer case.
