What is the best lift kit for a yj? I'm looking at a 3-4 inch kit. I heard that old man emus have the best handling. What about RE kits? My main priority is how the jeep handles on the road, but I want the look and performance of a lifted jeep. Thanks for the help

RE is a great kit at a good price. The OME's are a little over-priced to me, but they are very well engineered. Everything I've ever seen and heard about RE's YJ kits have always been good.

BDS is also a good one. They have lifetime warranty on their springs. They are a little more expensive than RE, but they're also an extremely good company.

I have a set of RE 4" lift (standard), and I am very happy with it. It is stiffer than the stock ride, but not unlike a pickup truck, so I am OK with it.

Regarding roll issues on curves, I have not problems even though the rear track bar is removed, and I currently have the sway bar disconnected. I even installed the lift kit myself (I had no additional help) during a weekend (the SYE took me more time because I did not have the correct snap ring pliers, but that's a whole different story!).

I would strongly recommend the RE lift kit, especially if you plan to run a SYE kit!

I have a 3 1/2" BDS Lift.

I have managed to break the leaf springs twice now. Once in the back and once in the front.

Fairly easy to install and once they are broken in easy to get used to.

I am looking at the Black Diamond 3.5" lift any opinions on it?

I have had YJ suspensions from both RE and BDS. Both are excellent quality and I'd recommend either one. If I had to rank them for performance and quality they would be ranked as follows:
#1 Rubicon Express' Extreme Duty line. The best spring lift you can buy in a complete kit - hands down.
#2 BDS. A better spring than the RE S.D. and flexes awesome. Ride is as good as or better than stock once they're broken in.
#3 Rubicon Express Standard Duty line. These are the best quality kits you'll find at that price or cheaper.

The YJ I currently have has a 2.5" Standard Duty RE kit on it. It was on the Jeep when I bought it. If it had been stock I would have most likey bought a RE 2.5 X duty kit which usually gives 3.5" of lift with their included lift shackles. The SD isn't bad but the flex and ride are good, not great. IT works, it's solid, reliable...

i have the re 4.5 extreme duty, its the only yj kit ive driven,and it is the best ive seen. it flexes great and rides decent. just my 2 cents.

I also installed the RE standard duty 2-1/2" lift kit, or I thought it was the standard duty.

Everything fit great, no issues installing (I replaced the spring shackles as well) and after almost 2 years still show about 3-1/2" of lift ... they never relaxed.

For me it is not a problem but I may have gotten the HD by mistake (good for me!).

How would you compare the ride of the re x duty to the ome suspensions?

My RE x-duty rides better than the stock springs but they were worn out and the bushings were frozen making for a rough ride. Across every board and everybody local all i've ever heard is that the RE x-duty is the best of the best spring under lift. I have the 4.5 x-duty and I go to the trails once a month or so I've only ever had it on 3 wheels once it has such good flex.

okay.... i promised myself i wouldn't jump into these posts anymore as there are so many options and as many people praising what they got.... but i have to say after 3+ yrs with my hellcreek http://www.hellcreeksuspensions.com/ 4" lift it is a great, affordable option... the price seems to have gone up a bit but for what you get (quality material and great service...) it seems worth it - stay away from the smaller lift - the 4" is where to go... (if all is the same now... its been a while...) but i'm running 33's and NO SWAY BARS, NO TRACK BARS and dont have any issues with sag, roll, bottoming, death wobble, articulation.. in fact the older it gets it seems to perform better... like i said, its been 3+ yrs and no telling what they're doing now but in my experience it was a good choice... and i remember my first jeep and first lift - i didnt have a forum like this to get feedback from and paid the price..... went Procomp = bad choice avoid at all cost....
