YJ Track-bars

Getting ready to put in my lift (4" HellCreek) and was wondering.... on my last YJ (91 Sahara) i ditched the front sway bar and rear trac-bar - wanted to know if keeping the front trac-bar is necessary - or are the springs rigid enough to keep things inline? also - what about the bump stops? are they a help or a hinderance? seems they would get in the way of flex (might actually have some flex with these springs - as opposed to the old jeep and the Pro-Comp lift....) any feedback would be helpful - thanks!

Due to the fact that the shackles are in the front of the springs instead of the rear, the trackbar is much more important in keeping the axle located on the YJ.

Keep it, unless you want to do a shackle reversal or another option is to get a telescoping trackbar, which locks in place while on the road, but you can open it up when offroad for better articulation.

I had pretty good flex with my trackbar in place on my '92 YJ when the swaybar was disconnected and I had removed my rear trackbar as well. If your lift and tire combination will allow room and you want more flex you might want ot look into the 2 options I mentioned.

thx twisted - hadn't thought about the shackle orientation - what about the bump stops? any ideas? (thinkin about the bolt on shackle reversal kit in the future...)

If you run 33's you should probably install them. I had a set of 32's and never installed the ones that came with my BDS lift kit. I never had a problem with rubbing. I believe that the bumpstops are there if you want to run 33's.

Bob (in Las Vegas),

I took have the Hell Creek kit on my YJ. Yeah, you should keep the front trackbar if you're jeep is more than 50% on road. It's easy enough to loosen one bolt and zip-tie the front trackbar up, out of the way for a day of trail-riding.

I would install the bumpstops. I didn't (at first) and had rubbing issues with 33's. Plus, when you factor that the springs will sag more quickly if they are allowed to go nearly flat at full compression, you will want to put the bumpstop extensions in. You should have about 3" (give or take) of upward travel before the bumpstops make contact.

Keep the bumpstops, limiting uptravel of the suspension will keep the tires out of the sheetmetal and make the springs last longer. The springs will fatigue quicker when they are over-compressed.

thx corey - it was you that turned me on to the hell creek site- gonna do the swap this wknd - w/33x10.5 BFG M/T's - just want to get the most out of the mod - but what you all say makes sense (and i didnt really suffer too much w/them on my old YJ...)
