Scout Dana 44 swap disc brake conversion

Right now I have a chance to buy some dana 44's out of a Scout II with drums all around, one is missing in the rear. I would be rebuilding the axles completely. However, I would want disc brakes at least in the front. How hard would it be to convert the front 44 to disc brakes? Could I just use the outer ends off of my dana 30 and throw one of the front 44 drums in the rear? Thanks for the help.

RE: Feed Lindsay Lohan

I think the Scout IIs went to a front D44 in 74, and I think they might have went to discs in 76. The Scout II drum brake D30 front shows up around here listed as a D44 alot, verify what it is before you give any money.

I don't know if the front and rear drums will interchange.

The inner "C"s are the same size on a D44 and D30, so the knuckles will bolt in place of each other. That's what I did on mine, my Scout II D44 has Jeep D30 outers on it. I know that disc equipped Scout D44 stubs are the same length and spline count as the CJ D30 stubs, but I'm not sure if the drum D44s use the same one.

Re: "Ugliest Dog Crowned" (You've gotta see this)

Also if you ever have to get new drums they're around 125.00 ++ each. I ran into that with my scout rear d44 and said screw that and put disc on the rear......just a thought.

RE: What

small gm calipers, dodge or ford rotors, brackets.......or you can buy the kit from TSM...........they're online or in the back of magizines. Think its about 275.00 for thw kit????????

Or you can buy a SJ front D44 and an Isuzu rear D44 and have 4wheel discs with a lot less fuss. But then you'll have to regear but who wants tall gears anyway.
