Whatever happened to the electric Jeep?

A couple of years ago there was a big fuss about an upcoming Jeep EV, and they even had a prototype electric wrangler that Chrysler would drive around. Since then I haven't heard anything about an all electric, or even hybrid Jeep. Did I miss something, or are we going to focus on electric FIATs instead?

I know there's a low adoption rate for electric vehicles, but I'd hate to see Jeep get left behind as they slowly start to catch on.

It's been around for a while. They just didn't make it BIG.

Sorry Terry! I think that you will fail to get into it ,cause your to big.

But I'd like to see you try.

You're gonna have to eat your hat. That thing fits like a glove.

Gas companies are fighting 100% electric cars tooth and nail.

How are they (gas companies) fighting it? Do you have any reference material we could read?

You think they are going to leave info like that around? Go to DC and listen to the Lobbyists and it will make you sick! NONE of what they say is on the record.

With a Mileage Deal Near, the Auto Lobby Pulls Its Anti-CAFE Ads - CBS News

Thanks!

First one is from 2007 reading like a conspiracy theory. Sure back in the early 90 there was a push for the government. But gas was less than a dollar a gallon, the electric car technology wasn't optimized and the infrastructure wasn't readily available. Of course maybe it wasn't time. Being "necessity is the mother of invention" the rise of gas prices has consumers interests. If the auto manufacturers really weren't interested we would not have the Prius, Volt or fusion. I look toward the future and anticipate the day I could put my banana peels and other garbage to power the flux capacitor, maybe preserve a decent world for my grandchildren's grandchildren someday.

What am I supposed to to read in the second one?

The CBS news one is about mpg mandates not electric cars.

Actually many of the top oil companies are investing in renewable energies including solar.

Chevron website-"Chevron is testing and evaluating emerging solar technologies at our 1-megawatt concentrating photovoltaic project in Questa, New Mexico, and at our 740-kilowatt Brightfield photovoltaic project in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Together, the two projects have produced more than 3.6 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy since their inception."
