    XJ Oil Pressure Light

Hi guys, My 1997 XJ has given me the Oil Pressure Warning Light (it only has dummy lights - no actual gauges) for the first time ever in the 11 years I've owned it. The weird thing is... it only came on immediately after I did an oil change. I did everything just like normal, but right after I...

    broken trackbar...

somehow i managed to snap my BDS adjustable trackbar right in two... but fortunately BDS has their 'no questions asked' warranty and i already have a new one! my question is this... after breaking the old trackbar and having to drive a little bit without it on (just to get to the shop and...

    help on a couple problems...

thanks for the input... as it turned out, it was just the wire going from the ignition coil to the middle terminal of the distributor cap. the plug on the cap had worked loose and corroded, and it looked like some of the rubber had been melted around the plug (what caused the smoke, i'm...

    help on a couple problems...

so here is what's going on with my 97 4.0 XJ... 1. i think my ignition coil just went out again today. i have replaced it twice before, and it's doing the exact same thing. the engine just turned off while i was driving and won't start again. turns over fine though... (also, is it weird that i...

    tire size question

they fit!!! thanks for the input bounty. and that is a good reference to have on tire sizes... my 3" lift and fender trimming provided plenty of space for a tire just shy of 32" tall and 10.5" wide. many websites debate tire sizes for cherokees... and while i'm sure that every jeep is slightly...

    tire size question

i have a 97 XJ with a 3" lift and rusty's flares with a decent bit of fender trimming. the only tire/wheel setup i have ever run is AR-767 wheels (15x7, -12mm offset, 4.0 inch backspacing) and 30x9.5 BFG AT (which actually is a 29.5 inch tire). i have always had a LOT of extra clearance though...

    Good replacement brake rotors/shoes?

I just turned over 150,000 miles on my original rotors, and my pads are at almost 60,000... so its time for some replacements. My stopping power is noticeably poor due to all my aftermarket stuff... so I want something that will give me some increased braking. Any good recommendations on what...

    Error Code 43

My check engine light came on today and I checked the codes on my dash. I got 12, 43, and 55. I know that 12 is nothing major and 55 is the end code... but 43 can mean a number of things... Any advice as to what I should do about this? Also, I had my jeep off-roading a bit today and went...

    Starting problems

Thanks for the replies so far. Just to clarify, this is actually NOT an ongoing problem. It has developed in just the last week or so. Again, it turns over fine and may even start without pumping the pedal, but if I don't give it gas for the first 5-10 SECONDS after starting it will die. I...

    Starting problems

My 97 XJ has some starting issues... it turns over fine (with a little drag at the beginning) but doesn't want to actually start right away and I usually have to give it some gas. It then stumbles for about 5-6 seconds (I have to continue to give it gas to keep it from stalling), but then starts...

    Trac-bar question

sorry i was unclear on what i said... i did not mean that you don't need a tracbar at all... i meant that you don't need to get an ADJUSTABLE tracbar right away. you should be fine with the one that you have is what i was getting at. you may eventually find that your steering starts to wander...

    Trac-bar question

you should actually be fine without one... at least for a while. if you run into problems (steering wander, death wobble, whatever else), you can always pick one up then.

    weird vibes

i haven't been wheelin' for a while so thats why this is so strange. it gradually became worse over the period of a few weeks as well... which is also strange. if its something that is bent (driveshaft, axle, etc.) how would i go about checking that? is it also possible that the dealership...

    XJ rear bumper

good luck... if yours is mounted the same way mine is (97 XJ), its a real pain. you will definitely be contorting yourself into weird spaces. it should be a total of 4 bolts, but you have to reach up inside the bumper to get to them and take off the side plastic moldings. have fun:)

    weird vibes

so here are the new components that were replaced within the last 6-12 months: shocks steering stabilizer upper/lower ball joints upper/lower control arms tracbar bushings tires thats all i can think of off the top of my head... but there might be a few more things. would it be possible that...

    weird vibes

no... but i have a t-case drop kit (1"). i initially had some mean driveline vibes when i put my 3" lift on, but the drop kit fixed them. i still don't know how driveline would explain the clearly visible excessive tire wear on my front right tire. they are brand new BFG's so the wear is very...

    weird vibes

i've been having some problems with bad vibrations/wandering for the past few weeks. i assumed the problem was just alignment as it seemed to be simply the tires... and i noticed that my front right tire was showing excessive wear on the outer edge. the vibes pick up bad just over 40 MPH and are...

    Liftin' stuff

you won't have to make any major changes for anything under 4-4.5" (depending on the year). however, even with a 3" lift, you may still have a few issues that have to be addressed... its different with every jeep. a 3" lift doesn't necessarily REQUIRE that you get new components (tracbar...
