1984 Cj7

I have a 1984 CJ7 Jeep. i am in the process of installing a new wiper motor. The problem is that the motor has a bushing on it that has teeth and the bushing on the jeep is a brass one without teeth. That is a problem. In addition, the jeep did not have a wiper motor on it before and I am trying to install one and don't know exactly what to do. Can someone help?

The motor should have a very short (like 2" or so) arm attached to that splined part. It attaches to the wiper linkages and as it rotates around it causes the linkage to sway side to side, in turn moving your wipers. It sounds like you are trying to attach the linkage directly to the motor without that little arm?
