4 lo hard to get into

I am having a hard time getting my 02 Wrangler Sport into 4 lo. It usually takes about 3 or 4 tries before it will stay in gear and not pop out during driving.

I am shifting in neutral at about 5 mph and most of the time it won't engage and stay there. Is there some type of adjustment on the linkage or something simple that I can look at before taking it somewhere to have it looked at?

thanks in advance!

Adjust the linkage, under the jeep on the driver's side of the transfer case, reaching up from in front of the crossmember.

Yes! especially if you have a lift with T case drop or body lift!

also, might want to try it at a slower speed than 5 mph, I have to be completely stopped to get mine in

On my '01 I really have to pull up hard sometimes. You can feel when it is in right the first time though. My biggest problem at first was getting over the horrendous grinding noise it made when you did it while in motion. I pull mine into 4hi going pretty fast (25-35) at the beach or on the snow all the time. It sounds ugly, but hasn't hurt it yet. I have my foot on the clutch too. I think you have to, but I'm not 110% on this.

I am going to mess around with it this weekend. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the advice!

If you have a lift and lowered the transfer case, the reason it may be popping out of gear is the shifting boot maybe too tight. I had this problem on my CJ and ended up loosening the screws on the boot.
