Axle ID

Ok guys
I have a 99 TJ sport.
Who can tell me how to identify my axles. I found on the net that there should be a tag on the axle tube. But the letters are rubbed off. I see a Dana emblem on the front and the rear. But I want to know what is inside them. Is there a way to tell without tearing them apart.

If your axle has a round cover it's a Dana 35. If it has a hexagon cover it's a Dana 44. The ratios for both are listed below.
TJ Axle specs Dana 35/Dana 44:
Gear ratio w/o ABS Dana 35 & Dana 44: 3.07, 3.55, 3.73, 4.11
Gear ratio w/ABS Dana 35: 3.07, 3.55, 3.73, 4.11
I put pics of Dana 35, and 44 axles in the "D44 myth" thread. They'll help you identify your axle.
