If I remember correctly, you and I are building the same D44 front axle (out of a 84-91 with vacumn disconnect) I was wonder if you had accually tore into that beast yet?

With the exception of brakes (trying to figure out how to get some discs to work) the rear is pretty much done, so now I am on to the front. I have some knuckles from a 75 chevy machined (flat top) and ready to roll, but what about the vacumn diconnect, did you find anything out? I did on the other hand find out that 73-75 chevy parts are 100% interchangable!

Have you considered running chevy spindles with manual hubs and welding what ever in the diff is vacumn accuated into place (i don't know, have not pulled it apart yet)

Just wondering if I can learn from your experience!

RE: Welding D30

I haven't had it apart other than to have the cover off to check out the disconnect. It's a simple lever operated disconnect collar that is operated by a vacuum solenoid mounted to the cover. Seems to me it'd be easy to hook a cable disconnect up to it to be able to disconnect one side of the spool from inside the cab.

I hadn't planned in running lockouts, but was going to keep the stock hubs, rotors, knuckles, etc.

I've got a rear D44 from a '93 Isuzu Amigo so it already has disc brakes and the same SJ 6-lug pattern.

RE: Re: RE: New Jeep owner--- stuck @ 2000rpms...

Thanks.. I have yet to take the cover off, the axle is still sittin in the back yard! If it look somewhat easy to "hook up" to a cable, I will simply re-use the original spindles and hub assembally.

as for the rear, mine is out of a 77 J10, I was gonna run rear caddy callipers with built in park brake, and chevy front rotors and fab up some mounting brakets! i will check some Junk Yards for the Rodeo parts though!
