Busy Weekend

Well, I had quite a busy weekend with the YJ and got a lot of stuff done. First thing I did was install an amplified external speaker for my CB. Set it right in the change/knickknack tray on the center console just between the seatbacks. Although now I'm wondering if my CB is working or not. Usually, I can pick up someone babbling on about something inane on one of the channels, but yesterday I couldn't. I used it just a couple of weeks ago and it was fine. Oh, well.

Next came a dome light (or dope light, as we called them in high school  ). It's actually a cargo light for the bed of a pickup, like you see on the back of the cab above the rear window. I strapped it to the roll bar with zip-ties so it illuminates both the front and rear of the Jeep. It's so dang bright I almost have to wear sunglasses to turn it on!! One of my biggest pet peeves with the Jeep (and many other vehicles) is the lack of light by the interior lighting system. The YJ has this tiny little bulb encased in plastic that is barely visible in the darkest of conditions, right under the driver's side dash. Why? I don't need to see my dang feet. I've been driving long enough to know where the pedals are now.

Next came an auxiliary powerpoint. I haven't attached it yet, but am thinking of either the front of the console, or just to the left of the cig lighter.

Finally, I installed a tractor light inside the left rear bumperette to use as a better back-up light. It just clears the tailgate, sits inside the bumperette so it's clear of obstacles and won't get whacked by my knee as I walk past. Wired it in with a toggle switch that has a red LED on the end to tell me when it's on (that looks pretty cool, too!). If I can figure a way to keep it clear of the tailgate, I'll probably put one on the other side, too, just because I hate non-symmetrical stuff!

Next weekend is oil change and tire rotation, as well as the regularly scheduled lube job.

sounds like you had a good weekend i did too :D

i played poker on friday night
and then i got 2 turkey dinners :D one on saturday night and one on sunday night. YAYmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

RE: Basic question on engine oil

Rode Redcone, Radical Hill & Deer Creek trails again on Saturday.

Sunday was an NRA basic pistol course, and witnessing the rain turn to snow here in Denver.

Monday? Off to a wet start then watched the snow turn back into rain again...

I look at the fresh snow on the mountains and think of how I wanted to ride the high trails well into November...

 sob...

RE: Reverse cut gears?

Finally finished most of my little projects for the Jeep this weekend. Only thing left to do is mount my new hood ornament: A brand-new, never-been-used Mack Bulldog, direct from the factory!!

I decided to mount the second back-up light on the other side, here are a couple of pics:

I don't really like the way I had to run the wire, but I figure it'll be safer there from mud and debris, and I didn't really want it in direct contact with the fuel tank. I plan on spray painting it flat black so it won't be so noticeable.

They definitely help in seeing what's behind me when I'm backing up! They have 55 watt H3 bulbs in them, but I do have a spare pair of 100 watt bulbs that I plan to put in them later on.

Speaking of which, I finally found 100 watt Halogen H3 bulbs for my top lights on the lightbar. Man, what a difference that made! Plus, I took the glass lenses in and washed them in the dishwasher, so that made a major difference, too. The light housings had these plastic grills over the lights, about 3/4" apart. They were thick, but didn't seem like they'd provide much protection from rocks as far apart as they were, and only seemed to block the light pattern coming out and made them hard as heck to clean all the bug guts off of them. So, thanks to my trusty dykes (no, not Ellen and Rosie), they are no longer an issue!

Oh, about the lube job: I'm not impressed. My old Toyota had 21 points to lube underneath...the YJ has 4. None of my U-joints is greaseable, but as they play out, I will replace them with the greasable type.

I've had an odd rattle for quite a few weeks now that I've been unable to track down. It was low pitched, kind of like maybe the airbox or something, and sounded like it was coming from under the hood. I could only hear it as I shut the motor off. While I was slithering around under the Jeep, I noticed the downpipe that connects to the headers and goes into the cat was rubbing the front driveshaft! I could move the entire exhaust from the header all the way back about 4 inches side to side. The two bolts that hold the downpipe to the end of the header pipe had come loose. In all my years, I have never seen any bolt on the exhaust system come loose, quite the opposite, they're usually rusted on so tight they have to be cut off! Remarkably, they tightened right up with very little effort. No more rattle, and it's a tad quieter on acceleration, as I suppose I must've had quite an exhaust leak there.

Oh, one other thing to do is mount my fire extinguisher to the roll bar. And my Hi-Lift JackGuard should ship this week, just in time for the trip to Mississippi. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I ate 2 turkey dinners drank, and played poker also hey antsinmypants your canadian you drive a jeep, you play poker, and you moon people my kinda women. You just made my night.Lol

Re: RE: Leaky tires driving me nuts

This weekend just finished -
Tried to ride the Jenny Creek Trail. 8 to 10" of fresh snow. Took the 502 trail to the bridge. Started across the bridge and felt the passenger side slide. Slowly backed up and off the bridge (this bridge is Jeep wide and simple planks). Tried again, then felt a major slide again in the same direction. Tried to back up and got the tire off the bridge at the side. Of course, there was a group of pine trees. Couldn't move the Jeep back without damaging the fender or pin striping the back quarter, so we winched it to the side. Did it twice then decided to back the Jeep up until we could turn it around.

We ended up using the winch to turn us around and a Rubicon that came down the trail. A motorcycle stopped and watched telling us that he had walked the bike over a great deal of the trail. Two quads came along. 1 was fine and 1 only had 3 tires. The fourth tire was a guy lifting the corner and carrying it so they could get the quad out.
Our dog, Molly, was wild and crazy and she hurt herself by running right in to the winch cable ($275 and many sutures on both legs in front).

BTW... Anyone else have the Warn extra wide fender flares? I obviously need a passenger side front and I would have to buy all four to get the one I want...
Later, I was getting the cooler out to get lunch, a knife had cut through the outer fabric; so, when I grabbed the cooler I cut the middle finger of my right hand. Deep enough to require compression for quite a while then super glue when I got home.
Sunday, I decided to just lay around the house - At least, that wasn't as expensive or damaging as my Saturday was!
