CJ-7 transmission problem

I have a 1982 CJ-7 (4.2 I6), which runs great until it's over 30 minutes on a trip. At that point, if turned off, it will start back up. But when put into gear, it immediately shuts down when I release the clutch.

I have tried giving it more gas while releasing the clutch, but this does nothing. It almost feels as if the transmission is seized up. But, if I wait 20 minutes, it starts up and drives fine. So it only seems to have this problem when hot.

Any ideas?

Did you check the fluid level?

What happens after 30 min? Rough running?
No power?
Please describe the issue more. Also are you driving above 30mph or crawling.?

Haven't checked the fluid level.

After driving for 30 minutes, it still runs fine. It just won't engage gears if I stop and then restart the engine. Like I said, it feels like the transmission is locked up. But once it cools down, it engages and clutches fine.

This is all after running it at highway speed (55-60) for 30 minutes.

Ya I'd check the trans fluid, transfer case fluid and the axel gear oil. If the engine is running strong and sounds good but stalls when letting out the clutch. I think it is likely is the drivetrain.
