Electric Fuel Pump

Anyone use an electric fuel pump on a carbed motor? I'm looking for opinions or insight.

During my last Paragon escapade, my Jeep died going up the steepest hill of the day. A couple people attributed it to overheating as I was running hot all day. However, I tried starting a couple times during my pull up the hill and got nothing. Once on flat ground, I noticed my fuel filter (in the engine bay) was empty. A couple pumps and it fired right up... with heat a lot less than it had been running.

The "overheating" explanation doesn't quite sit right with me. If my '77 360 block shut off from overheating, I'm hard pressed to believe it would fire back up with NO other problems arising in the two months since it happened. I mean, I drove it home the same day.

So, if it was that the incline let the float drop back, would an electric fuel pump have enough pressure to stop that from happening again?

Thanks,

I don't think so. Sounds like a common carb problem at angles. There are some carbs out there that give near FI performance on inclines.

I have a friend who uses a small electric pump (not even sure if its really even a fuel pump) to prime his lines into his carb when he runs dry
