Fuel Tank Skid Plate

Hey everyone!
Is the fuel tank attached to the fuel tank skid plate? I want to take the plate off, sand it down and repaint it. Don't want to undo the nuts and drop the full fuel tank on my chest! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The fuel tank is strapped to the skid plate and will come down when you remove the nuts holding the skid in place. Looking beneath the rear crossmember where the skid attaches, you will see two long bolts along with 4 or 5 short ones. The long bolts loosen the two straps holding the tank to the skid.

an empty tank and skid plate can't weigh much more than 15 pounds.


Took mine out in less than a half hour... and Never put it back in.
