I just bought the wrecked 92 wrangler for $1000. it does not have a engine, transmission or transfer case..but is in excellent condition besides where it was wrecked..the only things that need to be replaced are the front right fender and flare..the hood, the grill, and the front bumper..everything else is perfect..it came with hardtop and full steel doors, adjustable seats, its never been off road..my 87wrangler aint in the best of shape..i was wondering if i would come out better fixing the 92 and putting my lift, wheels, tires,cd player, speakers in it and selling mine for real cheap..i still have to buy a drivetrain for the 92 but i think i could get a 4.0 drivetrain for cheap..What do i do??

what is wrong with the 87? if it driveable you can easily recoup the money that you spent on the 92. what come stock in the 92, 4 cyl or 6 cyl? if it came with the 4, it would be just as much work to do a chevy 350 or a chevy 4.3 vortec. and they are a dime a dozen with many more upgrade options.

i was in the same boat as well. i had a 1990 6 cyl, but it needed alto of work. then i found a low mileage 95 four banger that hit a deer (cost me 200 to fix) and decided to keep that one instead.

the 92 came with the 4.0 my 87 needs some gaskets replaced and the transmission is missing a bearing in reverse.the body of the 87 is in great shape.the transfer case works pretty good too.

i would take all of the parts needed for the body from your 87 and put them on the 92. if your 87 is a 4 popper i would take the axles from that and put them in the 92 for a lower ratio. put the 87 back together using leftovers from the 92, now you have a rough 87 that runs and you could easily sell it for 1000 to get your money back for the 92. sell the hardtop and doors on ebay (youll probably get a grand) and keep the soft top, unless its too cold where you live. now you have most of the money for the drive train. there now you have an almost free 92 yj with the 4.0. even if your 87 is a 6 cyl, it will never compare to the 4.0.

I would swap a 4.3 vortec in to the 92. Get a transmission and tcase and your going to come out with a newer jeep that runs stronger.

hmmmm i think jeep90 has a good idea with the axles, they have 4.10s and if you put all your stuff into the 92 and sold the 87 you could get money to buy the drivetrain, possibly even go to a bigger beefier drivetrain. say a nv4500 and an atlas II?? definatley go with the 92 tho

Uh... if you gotta replace all those body parts (i.e., grill, bumper and fender) did you have the frame checked out? I'll bet dollas to dimes your frame is outta whack. Better have it checked before you start replacing stuff or installing a drivetrain.

Hydraulic Fan Swap for ARB Bullbar-equipped WJ

Sounds kinda steep for a jeep with no drivetrain.
