Instrument panel goes to zero

I have a 99 Wrangler Sierra 6cyl. At times the instruments including speedometer, RPM, oil pressure, water temp etc goes to zero. Sometimes a start up, sometimes at cruise. If I bang on top of dash they all usually pops back up to correct working range. Sometimes takes 2 or 3 hits to get it to work. I can go several trips and it works fine, sometimes it is multiple times during a trip. Has anyone had this experience and if so were you able to solve prob. My son is using it for his driving test in a couple of weeks and if it gives trouble during the test they will stop the test. Thanks Ray W

There is a connector behind the dash that comes loose. It's a common issue.. Just inspect it, clean the connections if needed and push it back together.

Can I get to connector from under dash or will I have to take the dash out? Thanks for your previous reply.

I don't think you need to disassemble the entire dash but you need to remove the panels that give access beneath the steering wheel.
