NP207

I recently discovered that my 87 YJ has an NP207 transfer case. Apparently 87 was the only year for this before Jeep changed over to the NP237 that is in the rest of the YJ's and TJ's. I have not read much on these and there's not alot of info that I can see about them.

I was thinking of doing a SOA and when it comes to the tailshaft conversion is this going to be a problem?

Are there different characteristics of the NP207 that will change the lift height at which a SYE will be required?

Any info/links that anybody has will be appreciated.

Everybody seems to hate this case. I think it has to do with the parts availabilty more than anything. I'm not sure if any ultra low-range gearsets are available, but the RE hack and tap SYE for the NP231 will work if you also buy a bearing spacer.

I think the factory low-range ratio is 2.61:1. I'm also pretty sure it uses the same size chain as a 231, so there shouldn't be any strength difference there.

A 21 spline NP231 should be a bolt in swap.

Stinky has a 87 soa. No sye.

How long has he ran/wheeled that setup?

Just curious... If I can wait or if it should be done at the same time. This thing won't see that much pavement

I think its a good idea to use a sye. But Mike never Broke with the spring-over. He did break with a shackel kit.
we took a Cherokee shaft, Cut it down to 1 inch longer then the stock jy shaft. T-case lower kit, and grinded out the yoke a little.
Believe Me Mike is not easy on the gas.

You should carry a spare yoke, and driveshaft anyway.
